Lionel Messi's greatest test

Today time will hopefully stand still for Argentina.

Argentina takes on Germany at Estadio do Maracana, Rio De Janeiro in their bid to become World Cup champions.

Watch the match live here.

Will Messi, Zabaleta and Mascherano be able to hold off the Germans, who have set out to make sure anything in their path is demolished after their slaughter of Brazil by six goals. The Germans are looking towards their fourth World Cup title and first since the walls came down while the South American nation seeks to add to two titles since 1986. Coincidentally they played against Germans in Mexico and won 3-2, however this was the West Germans alone now in 2014 its the unified team.

West Germany did find revenge against the South Americans in Italy in the following World Cup (1990) winning 1-0.

For Argentina winning this World Cup would be one of their greatest achievement, especially so because the Maracana is Brazil's holiest setting and secondly because Brazil is their fiercest neighbors and rivals. This will not go lightly since Joachim Low's team is expected to put on a great challenge to avoid Argentina's glory in a rivalry that dates back to 1958.

According to FIFA the two teams have met a total of 20 times, six in World Cup meets, one Confederation Cup and 13 friendlies. La Albiceleste holds the clearer advantage winning a total of nine times losing six and drawing five.

Lionel Messi holds a burden as grand as the competition's stage in an effort to lead his team to glory as did Diego Maradona.

Miroslav Klose breaks World Cup record

BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, World Cup 2014 Brazil vs Germany, Semi-finals

Miroslav Klose has topped the records for scoring the most goals in the World Cup. Klose netted a goal in the 23rd minute against Germany to put them in a 2-0 lead.

Klose not only helped to put his team into the World Cup finals by beating Brazil but also broke the record held by a Brazilian. He was tied with retired football star Ronaldo at 15 goals, he now stands at 16 goals in a World Cup and 71 in total from 136 matches.

The 36-year old Klose is Germany's all time goal scorer, topping a record once held by Gerd Mueller.

Germany finished the match with another record of 7-1 against Brazil

Brazil battles Germany for supremacy.

Brazil's troubled team has managed to make it to the semi-finals of the World Cup even while being the host. They have been a troubled bunch from the time Neymar suffered a knee injury against Chile. Then he was finally taken out in the last match they played.

The plan my well be to attack at every cost. Klose, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Muller will make sure there is no chance of the Brazilians to breathe, they will exhaust them and keep the attack steady.

Brazil is at the moment down 0 - 5 in less than 20 minutes.

Columbia meets Brazil and France takes on Germany setting the stage for this year's quarter finals of the World Cup.

The meeting of Brazil and Columbia in Fortaleza is a first for the World Cup stage, this in fact is the first time Columbia has made it this far in a World Cup.

The meet promises loads of excitement and action since at this point the Colombians have nothing to loose and have done extremely well in winning all of the matches they took on so far. With home town girl Shakira set to perform the national anthem at the finals, James Rodriguez and his boys may want to be there to make it one big celebration.

At the center of controversy about banned Beats by Dr. Dre headphones the Selecao star Neymar was nursing a knee injury sustained during the Brazil Chile match.

Neymar at practice with heavily bandaged knee leading up to today's match.

Neymar himself said he is fine and ready to play against Colombia, he also said "I have no pain. I feel very well trained and rest assured, I am fine." Although this is his claim he spent most of training time behind the side lines and Brazil's doctor Jose Runco said he will be evaluated for play leading up to the match. Scolari may need to change his formation to the one used in 2006 where there were three central defenders. He is yet to bring out the best of the rest of the players since Neymar has scored more than 50% of Brazil's World Cup goals.

The young Selacao netted four goals during regular time along with the penalty where he smoothly netted the winning goal to leave Chile behind.

10 vs 10
Neymar faces his rival Monaco's attacking midfielder James Rodriguez who has also garnered major popularity during this World Cup. Rodriguez is the first player to score in all of his first four World Cup matches since Italy's Christian Vieri in 1998.

Rodriguez - No. 10 does not have as much on his shoulders as Neymar- No. 10 when it comes to responsibilities since Neymar is the one carrying the burden of the Brazilian team and the expectation the world looks forward to. None the less they both have very similar stats for this World Cup.

With all beings said about who will come out king, both Neymar and Rodriguez will have to rely on a full team effort to solidify any attempt at moving on and qualifying.

Its a match the world will be watching.

The United States makes heroes out of ordinary men.

The United States may have been eliminated from World Cup 2014 but they have made an indelible mark in football  history books.
They'll stand with the greats of football for all time. They have done well in changing how they are viewed as a football team, especially a young one with about two decades of experience.
Tim Howard for example has broken a record that was good for half of a century. Sixteen saves all together, defending his territory in all of the 90 minutes of full time. It was only in the 30 minutes of extra time that as he puts it the levee finally broke under pressure.

Timothy Matthew Howard quickly became a hero for the Americans and adoring fans worldwide. He also became the subject of several memes including one changed on Wikipedia naming Howard as the U. S. Secretary of Defense.

It was quickly changed back to the real SecDef Chuck Hagel who really did give Howard a call to thank him for "defending the USA", saying also that the "we (USA) are proud".

Tim Howard memes are quite funny and are found right here.

They faced a surprisingly strong and organized Belgium team.

The United States may have had a chance to make a comeback if they had started their attack in the early phases of the very fast paced match.

Once again World Cup 2014 proved to be a different one with a substitute scoring once again, this time on his first touch in the second minute a fish play.

Julian Green will always be remembered as a hero who never gave up and as the youngest player to score a goal in World Cup since Lionel Messi in 2006. In fact at age 19, he's the youngest to score for the United States. Jurgen Klinsmann must be proud, and Green's career promises to be hectic and outstanding one if he continues on this route.

Jurgen Klinsmann pushed his team to its limit but had to let them re-book their flights before the finals. He too made his impact.
